Justice League movie trailer thoughts

Well this is a bit of a different post than usual as rather doing an actual full review I thought I would for a change look at a film trailer and the trailer in question is the upcoming DC universe film, Justice League.

So this post will cover my thoughts on it although I have to quickly mention that I am not really a comic book fan as such so my knowledge of the DC universe is fairly limited but this trailer has sparked my interest all the same.

And the premise for the film as far as its been known will involve the Justice League trying to stop the villainous Steppenwolf (and it is yet to be announced who will play him) and his hoard of parademons in their quest to collect three mysterious and powerful devices called mother boxes on Earth, which could have catastrophic consequences for the planet.

So let's take a quick look at the trailer and its premise.

THE TRAILER

Right so the trailer starts with Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) looking for a mysterious man in a cold habitat and he asks a group of villagers and says that apparently this man brings them fish and then the man he is looking, Aqua (Jason Momoa) turns around and says "Talk".  After this we cut to Bruce and Diana Prince, a.k.a Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) referring to their quest to put together the justice league members.  Bruce during the trailer also pays a visit to Barry Allen, a.k.a The Flash (Erza Miller) and he throws a bat symbol towards him, which Barry catches with lightning speed and Bruce offers Barry to join the league to which Barry accepts on the spot as he says he "needs friends" and can he keep Bruce's bat symbol.

The trailer also briefly shows Victor Stone a.k.a Cyborg (Ray Fisher) as it shows him both prior to his operation that turns him into Cyborg and of course after.  Cyborg at the end of the trailer once the team around assembled says to Batman that he thought he wasn't real only for Batman to sarcastically reply "I'm only real when its useful!".  The trailer than fully ends with an angry Aqua lifting Wayne up and pushing him up against a wall and Wayne calmly says him "Arthur Curry, I hear you can talk to fish" and smiles.

THOUGHTS

So my thoughts on the trailer are basically....bravo!  At last the DC universe on the big screen looks like it is going to produce a film that might actually be fun, which I personally think is much needed after the joylessness of Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.  And to top it off the film will be directed by Zack Snyder also, so perhaps the studio gave him a good talking to after BvS! ;-)  And the trailer has quite a few humourous moments and even Bruce Wayne is allowed a few moments of levity where he discusses his unsuccessful recruitment of one potential member with Diana Prince and later when he talks to Aqua man.

The new characters also look promising too given the physically imposing figure of Aqua Man, the wise cracking depiction of the Flash, which is supposedly closer in spirit to the actual comics than the TV show of the same name and Cyborg looks potentially good too.  And it looks like Bruce and Diana will share a good chemistry together as the main assemblers of the Justice League itself and no doubt play their parts in leading the team (at least I'd imagine they will, again I don't know much about DC!).

The film will of course also see the return of Superman although he didn't appear in the trailer but this might also provide a reboot of his own character.  And this would be one of the most important aspects of the film itself as it will give the filmmakers a chance to right the wrongs of Superman's onscreen character that we have seen so far.  And Superman never really fitted the idea of being such as serious character and in the last two films we simply didn't get to see Superman being heroic enough.

And Warner Brothers have also announced that there will be a new solo Superman film soon too, essentially Man of Steel 2 and they have said they determined to get the character right so let's hope they do after the critical and fan backlash Batman vs Superman got.  And I always felt myself that Batman's character is suited to a darker and serious film but Superman just isn't and its something they need to address and finally it looks like they will.

SUM UP

So to sum up from the first Justice League movie trailer, things are looking promising for the film although it won't be slated for release until November 2017 so there is still a way to go and there is also a Wonder Woman film due to be released next year in June and there are plenty more DC films on the way.  But if the film can live up to the promise of its trailer then it might just deliver what the fans, the critics and audiences want, a good DC film that will strike a good balance between the fun and the drama.

And that's it for now and I will be back on sometime soon with yet another review of sorts.

Till then its bye fer now!
