Trials Fusion: a quick review!

Well for a change rather than batter out a massive long post I thought I would do a quick one and this will cover the motorcycle racing game, Trials Fusion, which I have been playing on the PS4.  Is it any good?  Well let's find out!

A BIT ABOUT THE GAME

So a bit about the game well the Trials games series were pretty popular and I myself had previously played them on the Xbox 360 and they basically consist of racing platform levels, which start off easy but then they soon build up their difficulty levels until the gamer is tearing their hair out!  And this one is set in the future for a change in the not so distant year of 2032 (16 years away! God!).

GAMEPLAY

As for the gameplay and level design Fusion pretty follows suit with this too as the level design is very similar and it has the player, start off with a training program for each level of difficulty and to let the player get used to the level's obstacles and the moves they can pull off to overcome them.  The player can also perform a number of freetstyle stunts in certain levels too where they ride their bike off platforms, which provides much fun as the rider can perform different poses such as superman, coffin pose and a hero stance.

The player also as they progress gains points and medals (gold, silver and bronze) for every course they pass and they will also be awarded additional medals if they complete the course with few or no faults or finish it in a record time.  If the player gains enough medals it will unlock the next set of levels and as the player progresses the levels become more and more difficult and challenging and the game certainly becomes that later on.

The game also of course has options for multiplayer and allows for up to 8 players to race at once and there is even a track editor that allows players to create their own tracks and games.

GRAPHICS

Graphically the game looks superb on the PS4 and its visuals are rich and varied and the environment are also hugely impressive.  The game is essentially 2.5D and not 3D as the action is pretty much all side-scrolling and the rider follows as predetermined path rather than let you decide where the rider can go so they can only move backwards and forwards.  But overall the game looks terrific and it takes full advantage of the power of the next gen video game consoles.

MUSIC

As for the music, well its OK but for me it was nothing too special and the main theme is way too repetitive as it plays every single time you finish a level so it becomes annoying pretty quickly!  But the other tracks used for actual levels aren't too bad and sit nicely in the background will the player rides out the action.

FLAWS

As for the game's flaws.... well I would say its main flaw is in its difficulty level which is quite steep (no pun intended there!) as it goes on the game becomes very hard to complete the career campaign.  And this is of course can cause much frustration for the average player who just wants to try and get to the end to complete the game (well the career part anyway!).

I also thought like the previous games just why in the hell do they need to kill off the rider at the end of every level he passes?!!  I mean the guy either crashes his bike into explosive barrels, flies off a cliff to his death or even simply just crashes through a ceiling to land below again to his doom!  It just doesn't make any sense either even if it is supposed to be comical (which it is of course) that they would use the same rider for every course given the amount of fatalities he appears to undergo at the end of each level!

And lastly I think the game's 2.5D viewpoint gameplay wise is somewhat restricting in the game as the player can simply only move backward and forward and that's pretty much it.  And it would be nice if they could have added in a more 3D feel to the game rather than just keep it as 2.5D as that makes it just a bit too similar to the other games in the series.  But I guess that is what makes it as part of the series and there would no doubt be complaints that it would be a departure from the norm!  You can't win!

Anyway that's it for the flaws.

SUM UP

So in summing up I think Trials Fusion is a fun racing game and it does sees the Trials series continue in fine form and if you have a PS4, Xbox One or 360 its well worth a look as its alot of fun has great visuals and will give you a stern challenge as it carries on.

Wow!  So that was a pretty quick review for me!  And I will be back again sometime soon with another.

Till then bye for now!
