PS5 Launch Disaster

Hey folks, just thought I would post up something a bit different than my usual reviews on here for a change as I feel like sharing my thoughts on the whole shambolic launch for the new Playstation 5.

The console itself looks pretty stylish (albeit its pretty big and heavy!) in pictures and in the video clips I've seen on Youtube so far. Its also considered to be the future of gaming and rightly so given the graphics horsepower it has and the ability to do 4K gaming at 60fps and even go up to 120hz display wise and even the tagline for the console says "play has no limits" makes it all sound so impressive. However...that's all good and well if you can actually get your hands on one!

And that is the main problem right now of course is that most people cannot get their hands on a PS5 since its launch in the UK last week with all the big retailers stock sold out already on the first day within minutes. Not only that but retail websites such as Currys and John Lewis both crashed on the morning of the launch as so many keen buyers overloaded their website. In short it was a total mess.

However to make things worse, its not just buyers that were clambering over themselves digitally, it was also apparently digital bots that were causing the chaos as it was said that these bots bought up alot of the stock, so it can be sold on by scalpers. Scalpers if you are not aware are people that buy up multiple stock of certain items with the hope of selling them on to make a profit and unfortunately that is what is going right now on eBay with these a-holes, who are incredibly greedy and keen to play on people's desparations to get their hands on one of these consoles.

And right now on eBay you can see the scalpers are selling some of these console for anything from £700 up to £50,000! This in itself is totally disgraceful and frankly should be against the law to allow something like this to happen. In fact almost a week on from its initial release, its been revealed that 3,500 known PS5 consoles have been bought up by one scalper ring alone! Scalpers of course are nothing new as they have been round for years ripping people off when selling various hot products whether it be concert tickets, computer hardware or even in recent pandemic times, toilet paper and masks!

But it is sickening to see so many people robbed of a legitimate chance of purchasing a retail priced PS5 and right now could be enjoying playing the console at home (or even keeping it stashed it away for their kids Xmas) but instead these consoles are being stashed in some seflish scumbag scalper's garage to be sold at a disgustingly hefty profit. So, I would definitely urge anyone out there NOT to buy from one of these scalpers and let their undeserved stock go unsold and gather dust in their garages or warehouses and that you wait for a chance to get a console for its actual retail price and not a penny more.

The one good thing however that can come out of the lack of stock right now (or should I say legitimately priced stock!) is when people do get a PS5 further down the line, Sony will hopefully have ironed out any bugs or glitches that are appearing in the console right now. Any console on release will of course have technical issues but if you are willing to wait even a couple of months, you could hopefully get both a retail price console and one that has been patched for any issues encountered on release.

So, the PS5 definitely looks like an appealing console and I for one would be keen to get it to play the remake of Demon's Souls (which was the game that inspired the Dark Souls series) but I am prepared to wait a bit longer rather than be ripped off. Some things are definitely worth the wait anyway, so let's hope that all of us who want this console and are willing to wait, will get it soon.

Update on 26.11.20:

I've actually just read today that a statement came from the scalper ring that secured 3,500 PS5 consoles and they had "no regrets" whatsoever about what they did. Further to this, the statement also said that alot of their scalper community are people that are struggling financially and have been made redundant or been furloughed in their jobs and this is a way to put "food on the table". Hmmm! Now to me this sounds like a load of BS because if they WERE so hard up for cash, how could they all afford to buy so many PS5 consoles in the first place?!

Not only that but they clearly didn't think for one second that maybe there are families who are out there trying to buy a retail priced PS5 who are ALSO struggling financially to make ends meet but you don't see them ripping off people on eBay do you?! So, yeah I just think this statement is a pack of lies and a lame justification for what they have done and continue to do.

Right that's it for my thoughts on the PS5 launch and I will be back soon with another post.

Till then its bye for now!
